Rebecca and Allan love flowers. It’s one of the most endearing things abut them. They also love whimsy and nature; but most noticeably – they love each other. It seems like there could be no better wedding venue for them than Starling Lane Vineyard.

The term “vineyard” could be a little misleading to those unfamiliar with the venue. I would prefer to describe it as an enchanting garden with flowers and ladybugs and peacocks and trees. (If you’ve never heard a peacock before, they will make their presence known!)

Mr and Mrs Peacock appear in very interesting places throughout the day, seemingly unfazed by the array of guests and merriment. I spotted them on roofs, high up in the trees, meandering through the rose garden shortly before the ceremony…and no doubt in other curious places. Their presence is a welcome addition of color and character.

Getting Ready

My day began at The Oswego Hotel, where Rebecca was getting ready with her bridesmaids. This was my first time in Victoria and I was pleasantly surprised by how easy the city is to navigate – it is nothing like driving in Vancouver! Thankfully I was able to arrive with plenty of time, and met Rebecca on the top floor of the hotel, where she had panoramic view of the city and the ocean. Wow!

After getting into her dress, we headed to Rosemead House to meet Allan for the first look. The hotel staff had very kindly allowed us fifteen minutes in the garden to capture this special moment. And it really was incredibly special. I could tell how much care and affection these two have for each other, as they saw each other for the first time on their wedding day. It was a very heartwarming moment to witness and capture for them.

Starling Lane Vineyard

As this was my first time in Victoria, it was also my first time seeing the venue. While I had seen photos online and Rebecca had sent me an inspiration board, I was not prepared for how stunning this location really was. The whole property feels like an enchanted, secret garden, with quaint old buildings overgrown with ivy and flowers.

The wedding ceremony was going to take place in The Rose Garden. As I made my way there to set up my gear, I saw the peacock meandering through the pathways. The sun was shining, the roses were in bloom, and the guests were slowly arriving.

Needless to say, Starling Lane Vineyard is a magical venue, perfect for whimsical weddings.
