Gigi and Denzel had an energetic and emotional wedding, with their ceremony in Richmond and their reception at The Gables at Surrey Farms. Both being dancers, the night was a lot of fun!

In the wedding industry, it’s not unusual to get booked on short notice. I would say it’s even happening more now than it used to, with regards to videography. So I always try to have my kit ready to go, batteries charged and memory cards available. But I have to admit, I’ve never had a couple book me two days before their wedding. When I saw that Gigi and Denzel were in need of a last minute videographer for their wedding in Vancouver, I offered to help. It meant getting a ferry from Vancouver Island where I live (sometimes tricky this time of year), booking a hotel, boarding my dog for a couple of nights, packing my suitcase and prepping all my gear. And – perhaps most importantly – preparing mentally for the emotional rollercoaster of a wedding day.

But the reason I do this job is because of the people I get to meet, the places I get to travel, and the love I get to witness. And so I planned the trip in excitement – with a few butterflies in my stomach!

Getting Ready at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver

I began my day at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, with the bride. The suite did not have a lot of space, especially with all the bridesmaids and makeup artists at work, but luckily there was a beautiful empty lobby right outside, which worked perfectly for capturing Gigi in her gown.

Denzel was getting ready with his groomsmen and sister just a short drive away. The photographer and I explored the building and found a beautiful area for photos.

Wedding Ceremony at St Paul’s Parish in Richmond

We headed to Richmond for a Catholic ceremony at St Paul’s Parish. Stepping inside a church always feels sacred, and the weight of marriage can truly be felt. It’s such a little miracle that two people can fall in love and become one.

Reception at The Gables at Surrey Farms

And even with such little time to prepare, I stepped into one of the most joyous and vibrant weddings I’ve had the privilege of documenting. Gigi and Denzel are madly in love, and everyone could feel it.

The Gables at Surrey Farms is a beautiful location for a wedding, acting as a blank canvas which you can get totally creative with.
